TD Banknorth, through the TD Banknorth Charitable Foundation, has donated $10,000 to the Worcester State Foundation’s “Upward Bound Academy,” to support Worcester high school students.

Since its inception in 1977, the Upward Bound Academy has prepared up to 70 Worcester High School students each year for the opportunities and experiences of a college education. Participants are representative of the first generation and ALANA (African-American, Latin-American, Asian-American, and Native American) population within the Worcester community. Workshop topics include helping students develop leadership skills, working on critical areas in English and Math and improving critical thinking and problem solving skills. Other services include tutoring and personal and career counseling.

“The Upward Bound Program is extremely valuable in reaching eligible students in Worcester with the vitally important goal of encouraging them to continue their education,” said Mark Crandall, President at TD Banknorth in Massachusetts. “We are pleased to be able to assist with this effort.”
