More than 175 attended the 19th Annual Worcester State College Student Government Association (SGA) Auction to Benefit the Homeless and Children in Need last Friday. The event easily surpassed its fundraising goal of $24,000.

Early estimates indicate that the auction alone will raise at least $24,020. That total does not include profits from the photos with the World Series Trophies, coin drives and bake sales. In addition, following the auction, donations will continue to come in. All of the funds raised will benefit the Mustard Seed Foundation, which provides food and emergency services for the city’s homeless; Abby’s House, a local shelter for homeless women and Sherry’s House, a place for Central New England families of children with cancer.

Since the auction began, the SGA has contributed over $175,000 in proceeds to those in need. This year’s auction featured lots of in-demand items including, Red Sox tickets, Taylor Swift tickets, autographed baseballs, gift certificates for restaurants, museum passes and much more. In addition, the SGA Auction Committee held two fundraiser events leading up to the auction including photo opportunities with the World Series Trophies and Autograph Signing session by New England Patriot Patrick Chung.

“I was so impressed with the incredible creativity of our student leaders this year,” said Worcester State College President Janelle Ashley, who attended the event.  “The autograph signing opportunity, World Series trophies, and all the great auction items they bring to our community every year made this a terrific event. We are so proud that, due to their efforts, we will be helping these very deserving community organizations.”
